“ Marion’s reputation as a lyrical and moving vocalist and her depth as a crafter of beautiful songs are legendary among musicians New Zealand wide” (National Jazz Festival, 2011).

Marion ArtsMarion’s career has produced a wealth of wonderful compositions, both for guitar and voice. She has performed consistently in New Zealand, Australia and Europe, making many fine recordings on the way. Some of her songs have been recorded in Germany and Holland, and in 2011 one of her classical guitar suites was played in Greece.

Starting with classical guitar, moving through Folk music into Folk-Rock, she co-founded Red Hot Peppers. This band toured widely through NZ and then Australia in pubs and concerts. Here the band turned more to a rock style.  In a duo with Robbie Lavën she toured Europe playing at many music festivals. Here jazz began to show its’  influence and it began to add to the huge diversity of colourings you can hear in her work. She is now settled in Tauranga, though still plays in Australia and elsewhere.

A few of her recent various line-ups have been:

  • “The Glamorous Mrs. B”, a swing dance band in retro style.
  • As vocalist with Auckland retro Big Band “The 1932 Jazz Orchestra”
  • Top Hat”, a duo with wind instrument specialist OscarLavën
  • “Bonjour Swing” a gypsy jazz-influenced group.
