Topic: Tauranga Jazz Festival

Topic type:

The first National Jazz Festival was in 1963 at the Soundshell in Memorial Park and attracted around 300 people.

Since then the event has grown substantially, and now, 50 years later, more than 60,000 people descend on Tauranga over Easter weekend. This page features some of the historical advertising and albums from the Tauranga Jazz Festival. These items were sourced from Nga Wahi Rangahau: Research Collections (formerly the New Zealand Room) located at the Tauranga City Libraries. They were part of a 2012 exhibition by librarian Stephanie Smith on the musical history of Tauranga.
