War Archives Talk by Stephanie Smith (2016).

The Diary of Arnold Henfrey Watson (1918) Pongakawa farmer Arnold Watson had always been interested in drawing, painting and natural history. During World War I he was with the 19th Mounted Reinforcements before being drafted into the 15th NZ Company of the Imperial Camel Corps, where he remained until it was disbanded in mid-1918. The Corps distinguished itself in the Sinai and Palestine campaigns by helping to protect the Suez Canal from the Ottoman Empire. Arnold's diary is richly illustrated with his observations. Photograph: Debbie McCauley.
