Joseph Arnaud Govan served in Japan during World War II. He also started the Te Puke Piano Accordian Band.

Joseph (Joe) Arnaud Govan was born in Auckland on 6 March 1924. He married Elizabeth Isabella MacFarlane (1928-1996) on 24 February 1948 in Te Puke and had five children. Like his elder sister Jean, Joe learnt to play the piano accordion, and started the Te Puke Piano Accordion Band. Joe served in Japan with the army towards the end of World War II. In 1984 he married Thelma Louise Alcock (née Lorrigan) (1925-2008). Joseph died, aged 71, in Tauranga, on 5 November 1995 (reg. 1995/56012). He was cremated on 8 November 1995. His death notice appeared in the Bay of Plenty Times:

GOVAN, Joseph Arnaud (J Force 624399 WWII). Passed away (peacefully) at Tauranga Hospital on 5 November 1995. Loved husband and friend of Thelma (Alcock), father and father-in-law of Christine and the late Kerry, Roger, Keith and Pat, Susan and Lew, Stephen, April and Lionel, Pauline and Phil, March and Gary, and loved grandfather of all his grandchildren. Special thanks to nurses at Ward 8. A service will be held at the Elms Chapel, Mission St. Tauranga, on Wednesday at 1.30 pm, followed by private cremation, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Society.
