Stuart Daniel Wells passed his University Entrance exam at Tauranga District High School. He served during World War II but was reported missing off the coast of Germany.
Stuart Daniel Wells was born on 10 May 1922 to Charles Archer and Mabel Lillian Wells of Mount Maunganui. He passed his University Entrance exam at Tauranga District High School.
His Air Force training was carried out at Levin and New Plymouth. He flew several operations on Wellington bombers and then served as Second Pilot on a Sterling bomber.
The aircraft James as in failed to return from a mine laying missing off the German coast. He was buried at the time in Heligoland Civil Cemetery, but the grave is now lost.
James is remembered in Tauranga's Memorial Grove, two rows of totara trees located on Fifteenth Avenue which stand as a memorial to 41 former Tauranga District High School students killed during World War II (1939-1945). He is also remembered on the Anzac War Memorial Cenotaph (Mount Maunganui).
