White cross for Warena Mokopapaki Tapsell (1899-1918) .


Tauranga Hauraki Regiment member Warena Mokopapaki Tapsell died from influenza at Narrow Neck Military Camp Hospital on 4 November 1918 during the 1918 Influenza Pandemic (Spanish 'flu). In 2014 Tauranga's 'Field of Remembrance' was created comprising 107 white crosses in memory of the men from the Tauranga area who died during World War I (1914-1918). Each cross carries a red poppy and the name of an individual who died. Text and photograph © Debbie McCauley (2014).
