White cross for Harry Wensley Kirk (1889-1918).


Omokoroa farmer Harry Wensley Kirk served with the Auckland Infantry Regiment during World War I. He died of measles and purulent bronchitis in England on 24 February 1918 and was buried in Tidworth Military Cemetery. In 2014 Tauranga's 'Field of Remembrance' was created comprising 107 white crosses in memory of the men from the Tauranga area who died during World War I (1914-1918). Each cross carries a red poppy and the name of an individual who died. Text and photograph © Debbie McCauley (2014).
