Michael Patrick Stewart married Francis Stewart, the daughter of Katikati founder George Vesey Stewart.

Michael Patrick Stewart was born in Kilconquhar, Fife, Scotland in 1859. His parents were John Erskine Douglas and Julia Stewart (nee Turton). He arrived in New Zealand on board the Lady Jocelyn in 1878 and enlisted in the Armed Constabulary at Tauranga.

In Auckland in 1886, Michael married Frances Jane Montgomery Stewart who was the fifth child of Katikati founder George Vesey Stewart and his wife Margaret.

The children of Michael Patrick Stewart:

  1. Angela Julia Isabel Stewart (1887-1982). She married Ernest Conway Bennett.
  2. Maud (Nina) Nina Margaret Stewart (1888-1934). She married Charles Gunson.
  3. John Houston Douglas Stewart (1890-1904).
  4. George Archdale Stewart (1894-1959). He married Myrtle May Wheeler.
  5. Edith Julia Stewart (1898-1900).
  6. Muriel Frances Stewart (1902-1988). She married Cyril Dudley Lester.
  7. Donald Erskine Stewart (1905-1985). He married Ailsa Violet Annie Forbes.

It is thought that Michael Patrtick Stewart's mother, Julia Stewart (nee Turton), was visiting Katikati in 1898 as Emily Surtees has photographed her with her grandchildren in December of that year:

Michael died in Devonport, Auckland, in 1921. Frances died in 1947 in Remuera, Auckland.
