Caption

Alice Maryann (nee Theobald) and John Donald Macmillan (known as Don) developed the largest free-range poultry farm in New Zealand at Katikati, with over 10,000 laying birds. There were six houses on the Macmillan property; five for staff and ‘Ferndale’ the family’s residence. In conjunction with the poultry farm, Ellen’s parents also ran a dairy herd on the 150 acre property at the end of Beach Road, Katikati. Photograph: Ellen McCormack (2012).
