Topic: Tauranga Waldorf School: Snow White & Rose Red Buildings

Topic type:

Two kindergarten buildings on the Tauranga Waldorf School site are named after characters from a fairytale by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm.

This structure comprises two buildings that both house kindergartens. The first, Rose Red, came from Telecom in Te Puke soon after the school land was purchased in 1989. Rose Red was extended in 1996, which included the addition of a deck, to make way for Snow White, which is the building on the west side.

Planted in the garden alongside the building are two rose bushes. The white one represents Snow White and the red one Rose Red from the fairytale by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm. The buildings are painted a soft pink in remembrance of the in-uterine experience. In 2008 Snow White’s kindergarten teacher was Margaret McCarthy with helper Andrea Lehmann and Rose Red’s kindergarten teacher was Suzanne Allen.
