The library is promoting digital storytelling to create a digital library of arts, cultural and heritage resources. Through a new software system called Kete, meaning basket, community groups and individuals are able to upload their real life stories and images to the web for future generations to enjoy.
You are invited to actively contribute and join the fun - to create a community knowledge basket of digital images, videos, sounds and documents. The Kete will be created by the community and moderated and maintained by Tauranga City Libraries.
We want you to get your personal papers and photographs out from under your beds and place them alongside our archival and historic photographic collections. Not only that, we want to capture the memories and stories that will become part of our heritage. We want a place where our artists can showcase their work, a place where we can celebrate who we are and how we live through photographs, video and audio footage and stories.
The House Rules are to ensure everyone enjoys participating in this Kete. If you don't feel that you can abide by our House Rules and Terms and Conditions, then this Kete may not be for you; feel free to leave.
Kete was developed with Ruby on Rails, utilizes Zebra z39.50 full text indexing engine developed by IndexData, is fully compatible with Koha, and will be released under a GNU General Public License (GPL). The Kete software is available for download and we invite other communities to build their own Kete.
