Ink and Graphite on Kopatapata Ma Harakeke Paper

Ka maumakara toru matounga uri.

An interpretation of a warrior fallen during the battle of Te Ranga nestled within bracken. The barberry thorns symbolise roads that cut through Te Ranga and Pukehinahina in the present day. Both barberry and bracken compete for space at the Te Ranga site. The flag is rendered in gold to stand for the wealth Maori lost as a result of the land confiscation after the battles, and ties the two sites together.

Wendy Pederson – Ngati Maniapoto.
